I realised last night that I’d missed this 3 part series, but fortunately parts 2 and 3 are still available online via 4 on Demand. I found part 1 on YouTube.
It’s truly fantastic. A young bloke of 16, acknowledged as a musical prodigy (mainly as a composer and conductor), travelled to the USA and then to China to choose 4 children to play in his new concerto. It’s not simply fascinating: part 3, where they all travel to England to rehearse and then perform it, is genuinely joyous and moving. One of the very best things I’ve seen on the box for as long as I remember!
If you haven’t seen it then run there and watch before it disappears from the Channel 4 page.
