If it wasn’t for the time of night and the extraodinary quantity of wine that I’ve consumed, I would read the whole thing now. As it is, it will have to wait for tomorrow… looking forward to reading it though.
Thanks, Gayle 🙂 I hope you enjoy!
That was a very lazy Sunday morning in bed, reading out your account to Mick (until the battery gave out in the iTouch just as you reached North Water Bridge, at which point I felt obliged to stop being so lazy).
Excellent read – and it made me repeatedly mutter about wanting to go out for a good long walk.
Heh, thanks! Well, you certainly have a very big walk coming up!
I was in the same situation as Gayle – although wasn’t even able to type a reply 🙂
Am having a great time reading it.
Thanks PW.
Thanks for reading! I’m glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
Good one Shirl, enjoyable reading as ever.
Interesting that you got wet on a really rainy day with your Paramo. I got slagged off on the OM forum for having the same experience when I was in the Carneddau in August.
I’ll have to wait a few years before I can get the time to do the TGOC, but I’m looking forward to doing it when I can!
Thanks, Robin.
Doh… I’ve just been over to OM and read that thread. That sort of unreasoning Paramo evangelicalism is most of why it took me years to finally try it out, and that sort of endless circular argument is part of why I don’t generally read NGs or OM any more.
I hardly ever contribute to OM these days, given the treatment that some have suffered (e.g. BG and Darren). I had to reply as the guy was basically calling me a liar. Like all gear, Paramo has limitations. If you don’t accept those, you will be disappointed. A bit like the Laser Comp, it’s a great tent but it has its foibles and limitations. The Comp vs. Akto is another debate that creates more heat than light.
Oh, I could see why you replied to him. That’s what I dislike about those conversations, though. It’s very difficult *not* to respond to somebody who keeps ignoring what you’re saying (e.g. about your jacket being clean), and responding to your posts on the basis of something you haven’t actually said. It’s easy to get sucked in, and no fun at all.
Some peeps seem to be unable to grasp the simple concept that tastes differ, and there’s definitely a body of Paramo fanatics out there unwilling to accept that it’s not perfect in every single respect. I think they do more harm than good to the reputation of the product.
ZOMGRRRF!! We are not worthy!
GRRRSNAPSNAP!
How about those sausages?!
Hi Shirl, just finished tgo report, well worth the wait thankyou and keep em coming. John.
Thanks, John! I’m v. glad you enjoyed it ♥
Hahahahaha! Well worth the wait! Must lose some weight by next May, the camera never lies, it appears….
Heh… I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks 🙂
And you don’t need to lose weight! Ali, Sue and I thought you were perfect just the way you are *g*
Great write up which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you for a good read.
Thanks, Laura! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for helping to make my Challenge a great one ♥
Rip-roaringly good yarn, Shirl! Thank you – a true labour of love.
I see you met my twin brother in Ballater… He looksh shlightly worsh for wear…
I hope you are readying yourself for the 2010 podcast show then?
Yes, it *was* a bit weird!
I think that was the moment you paused for breath, though *g*
Thank you Shirl – I’m glad you finished this as I’ve really enjoyed reading it (lots of laughs along the way1) and am now looking at Torridon as YET another possible start point for next year.
I think your Roclite 315 and my Roclite 370 (sadly discontinued by Innov-8) look really good together!!!
David
PS I’m probably not allowed to do the underwear cometition as I was present at the time, right?
Thanks for reading, David ♥
Torridon’s a great starting point, no doubt about it. I’m thinking maybe Plockton.
I thought our shoes looked great together *g* And thanks for reminding me what yours are called. I looked for them on the Innov-8 site but couldn’t find them. That’ll be because they’ve been discontinued, then. Doh…
Ooh, I think you *should* reveal the secrets of the underwear competition *g*
Hello again Shirley. Just finished your cracking yarn and it’s been a brilliant read, start to finish, with lots of giggles. Thanks for taking the time to do such a good job, but can next years come quicker? The wait was excrutiating because I knew it was going to be such good fun! Have fun in 2010, maybe we’ll happen across you, if we eventually get ‘in’!
Regards
Louise
Thanks, Louise! I’m so glad you liked it ♥
If I want to write next year’s more quickly I reckon I may have to start now… *g* I hope we do meet up next year. My crubeens remain crossed for all my pals on the list!
Another great read Shirley. The TGO challenge never seems properly put to bed until you’ve done your excellent report. Do you make copious notes every night? I mean to, but usually fall asleep in the middle of writing them! How do you do it?
Thanks, Jenny ♥
I generally make some quick notes in the tent at night, but this time I was so wiped out by Braemar that I didn’t make any notes after arriving there *g*
I find the the photos help to bring back lots of memories for writing up the walk.
Yes!! Another of life’s ambitions achieved, an appearance in a Peewiglet story!
That was a great read Shirl. I did wonder if after three Challenges you’d be able to keep up to the standard, but it’s as fresh, funny and energetic as ever. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed reading anything so much since I read your last account.
Looking forward to next years already,
John
ps How did the down trouser/sleeping bag combo work out?
Thanks, John! ♥
You’re very kind indeed about my write-ups. Knowing that people like to read them really keeps me going with them. Of course, I like to re-read them myself as well, but I’m not sure I’d ever have finished this one without encouragement. Thanks again! ♥
The down trousers worked brilliantly with the sleeping bag, btw. SO lovely and warm in combination with the booties that I really didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning! Even more than usual *g*
another great TGO write up 🙂 and the pictures are great to 🙂
Reading your experiences from the challenges over the years, is one of the reasons I decided to apply to do it.
Thanks, George! ♥
It’s thrilling to know that people have been inspired to have a go by reading my reports 🙂
Am still only part way through your report – enjoying it as per usual with your write ups Notice on day 4 that your kettly thing lid has your name on it. Reminds me of school. Is all your kit labeled?
Hello Phil 🙂
*g* I’m not organised enough to have labelled everything, but there are so many kettly things and kettly mugs around these days that I wrote my name on them back in 2006 after they were almost lost forever in somebody else’s tent. Poor wee things! *g*
Hi Shirley,
Wow great read & thanks for sharing. I met you & Colin in the fish & chip shop in Aviemore. Luckily my injured ankle was alot better the next day & I was able to carry on.
Best Regards
Dave.
Hello Dave!
Many thanks for dropping in, and thanks v. much indeed for reminding me of your name! I’ll amend the page.
I’m v. glad to hear that your ankle was okay in the end. I twisted one of mine very badly once (30 years ago) and it’s been swollen ever since!
