That was a very lazy Sunday morning in bed, reading out your account to Mick (until the battery gave out in the iTouch just as you reached North Water Bridge, at which point I felt obliged to stop being so lazy).
Excellent read – and it made me repeatedly mutter about wanting to go out for a good long walk.

Interesting that you got wet on a really rainy day with your Paramo. I got slagged off on the OM forum for having the same experience when I was in the Carneddau in August.
I’ll have to wait a few years before I can get the time to do the TGOC, but I’m looking forward to doing it when I can!

Doh… I’ve just been over to OM and read that thread. That sort of unreasoning Paramo evangelicalism is most of why it took me years to finally try it out, and that sort of endless circular argument is part of why I don’t generally read NGs or OM any more.
I hardly ever contribute to OM these days, given the treatment that some have suffered (e.g. BG and Darren). I had to reply as the guy was basically calling me a liar. Like all gear, Paramo has limitations. If you don’t accept those, you will be disappointed. A bit like the Laser Comp, it’s a great tent but it has its foibles and limitations. The Comp vs. Akto is another debate that creates more heat than light.
Oh, I could see why you replied to him. That’s what I dislike about those conversations, though. It’s very difficult *not* to respond to somebody who keeps ignoring what you’re saying (e.g. about your jacket being clean), and responding to your posts on the basis of something you haven’t actually said. It’s easy to get sucked in, and no fun at all.
Some peeps seem to be unable to grasp the simple concept that tastes differ, and there’s definitely a body of Paramo fanatics out there unwilling to accept that it’s not perfect in every single respect. I think they do more harm than good to the reputation of the product.

Another great read Shirley. The TGO challenge never seems properly put to bed until you’ve done your excellent report. Do you make copious notes every night? I mean to, but usually fall asleep in the middle of writing them! How do you do it?

I generally make some quick notes in the tent at night, but this time I was so wiped out by Braemar that I didn’t make any notes after arriving there *g*
I find the the photos help to bring back lots of memories for writing up the walk.

That was a great read Shirl. I did wonder if after three Challenges you’d be able to keep up to the standard, but it’s as fresh, funny and energetic as ever. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed reading anything so much since I read your last account.

The down trousers worked brilliantly with the sleeping bag, btw. SO lovely and warm in combination with the booties that I really didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning! Even more than usual *g*
